Cupid hastens their exit from naxal embrace

By Our Staff Reporter

GUNTUR, NOV. 24. Another naxalite surrendered in Guntur district this week to the Superintendent of Police, Jitender, on Wednesday. Interestingly a love affair between two dalam members, which was not approved of by the Maoists, led to these two surrenders.

A resident of Gangulakunta in Veldurthy mandal of the district, 14-eyar-old Yepuri Pushpalatha alias Sujatha, who joined the People's War (now CPI Maoist) Veldurthy Dalam last year, but due to pressure from family members decided to return to the mainstream of life, the SP told the reporters.

An agricultural worker, she had given up studies after fourth standard. Her acquaintance with the dalam commander, Ravi, attracted her to the extremist ideology. Her parents had decided to get her married to a relative, which she did not like and followed Ravi into the dalam. In the dalam she fell in love with Shaik Beebi Saheb alias Sagar, guard of State Committee Member, Sreedhar.

The party did not allow the marriage, as he was still a minor. Sujatha was sent to Pullacheruvu.

Rehabilitation

She actively campaigned during the anti-arrack movement. Her brother recently fell ill and her parents forced her to return to village, she said. She would be rehabilitated as per the rules of the Government, Mr. Jitender said. On Monday, the 19-year-old Shaik Beebi Saheb surrendered before the SP, expressing displeasure at the way the party was functioning and told the reporters that he was vexed with the party ideology.

He had participated in the attack on an RTC bus between Bandlamotu and Remidicherla, escaped from exchange of fire at Vemagiri in Guthikonda Bilam and Gandiganumala before the general election this year.
