KOLLAM, NOV. 25. The factional feud in the RSP(B) took a turn for the worse today with the party general secretary, A.. Thamarakshan, stating that his faction would not allow the faction led by the Labour Minister, Babu Divakaran, to hold the State-level delegates conference of the party as announced by the latter faction. Prof. Thamarakshan was talking to presspersons here. The Babu Divakaran faction had announced that the delegates session of the party would be held in Thiruvanathapuram on November 27 and 28. The faction leaders had also told mediapersons here that Prof. Thamarakshan would be expelled from the party at the session and a new general secretary would be elected. However, Prof. Thamarakshan today said that his faction too has called for the delegates session of the party tomorrow in Thiruvananthapuram. A good number of delegates from Chavara, where the Thamarakshan faction is strong, will arrive in Thiruvananthapuram tomorrow "to attend the session." Prof. Thamarakshan was quite open that in addition to holding the session, the aim of his faction would be to stall the session called by the Babu Divakaran faction. RSP(B) activists admit that the situation can lead to law and order problems.
Divakaran flayed
He alleged that Mr. Divakaran was engaged in anti-party activities. "Instead of protecting the rights of cashew and toddy workers, Mr. Divakaran, as Labour Minister, was protecting vested interests of the abkari lobby and the private sector cashew employers." Meanwhile, the Thamarakshan faction today got Mr. Divakaran removed from the post of vice-president of the Titanium Complex Employees Union (TCEU). Prof. Thamarakshan announced that the Chavara MLA, Shibu Baby John, has replaced Mr. Divakaran in the TCEU.
