Cuddalore
By Our Special Correspondent
CUDDALORE, NOV. 25. The Cuddalore District Chamber of Commerce president, D. Shanmugham, has appealed to the Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, to order the immediate release of T. Vellaian, president, Tamil Nadu Vanigar Sangankalin Peravai, and 12 other office-bearers. In a representation, Mr. Shanmugham said the traders of Chennai, Kancheepuram and Thiruvallur had protested the arrests by observing a bandh. Traders in Cuddalore district were hoping that the Chief Minister would soon order their release. Mr. Vellaian and others were arrested on Tuesday night on the charge of breaking open a scrap shop at Ramavaram in Chennai sealed by the police for having stored empty bottles from the government-run liquor shops.
