PATHANAMTHITTA, NOV. 25. The 21st annual district meet of the Kerala NGO Association began at the P. Balan Nagar (Gym Palace Auditorium) here this forenoon. The Congress leader, V. M. Sudheeran, inaugurated the meet at a function presided over by the Aranmula MLA, Malethu Saraladevi. In his inaugural address, Mr. Sudheeran, called upon the civil servants to eliminate corruption. He said that corruption was a cancer on the civil service and it was high time to make concerted effort, by both the political executives as well as the civil servants, to cure it completely. He said that in many corruption cases, politicians could not be convicted. Mr. Sudheeran said that a contended civil service was a must for the smooth functioning of a Government. According to him, the dream of a corruption free civil service will be cherished only when the common people begin to get justice from the official machinery without the help of any middlemen. The District Panchayat president, K. K. Royson, the municipal chairperson, Ajeeba M. Sahib, the DCC vice-president, P. Mohanraj, the Youth Congress national secretary, Anil Thomas, district president, A.Sureshkumar, the NGOA State president, P.K.Raveendran, district leaders, R.Mohankumar, Mr Pradeep Thamarakkulam and the Mahila Congress district president, Rajalakshmi also spoke. The district meet concludes tomorrow.
