Bihar
RANCHI, NOV. 25. Film actor-turned-BJP senior leader Shatrughan Sinha today said he was ready to shoulder any responsibility assigned to him in Bihar by the party Central leadership. ``I am a Bihari and have feelings for the State which has been ruined by the parties in power," said Mr. Sinha adding, "I will strive with people's participation for emancipating Bihar of the Laloo-Rabri misrule." Bihar goes to Assembly polls early next year. Mr. Sinha said he had no reservations about who would be asked by the party to lead the state in the ensuing election. "There are no differences in the party on the matter and anybody who is projected to lead the party in Bihar will get my full support," he added. Holding the ruling RJD responsible for the "backwardness of Bihar", he said this was apparent from the fact that the State's per capita income was Rs 3500 as compared to the national average of Rs 12,000. This proved beyond doubt that the State was in "bad shape" with over 40 per cent people still living below the poverty line, he added. He further charged the ruling RJD with having "demoralised" the Biharis and having "criminalised" the State's politics. Corruption was "rampant" and immediate remedy was needed for nursing the people's sentiments which had been hurt adversely by the Laloo-Rabri regime, Mr Sinha said. Stressing the need of ousting the RJD Government in the state, he called upon the people for a pro-active role in "rebuilding" the State. BJP vice-president and MP from Bihar Sushil Kumar Modi said no decision had so far been taken by the party on who would lead the State in the coming polls. He was reacting to a query on whether the party had decided to assign this uphill task to Mr. Sinha. He, however, added, "Mr Sinha is definitely our star campaigner." He said the BJP would finalise its leader after in-depth deliberations taking into consideration the ground reality and after consulting its NDA allies. UNI
