CHITRADURGA, NOV. 25. Karnataka Rajya Vijnana Parishat is planning to use various art forms to create scientific awareness in the State. Addressing a press conference after the meeting of the State organising committee here on Thursday, H.S. Niranjan Aradhya, honorary secretary of the parishat, said that puppet shows would be organised as part of the "Year of Scientific Awareness, 2004" celebrations to create awareness about the importance of preservation of local varieties of seeds and environmental protection, and on plastic wastes. "We are chalking out various programmes to popularise science not only among schoolchildren but also among the adults. We will be organising quiz programmes and various other competitions. We will be giving away books worth Rs. 6,000 in every district," he said. Dr. Aradhya said that the parishat planned to establish an institute for science communication. In the first phase, almost 30 per cent of schools in the State were covered. "We want to cover more schools this time. Our thrust will be to expose the secret behind `miracles'," he said. S. Mallikarjunappa, president of the Chitradurga Science Centre, and C. Yathiraju, State convener of the "Year of Scientific Awareness, 2004" were present on the occasion.
