BELLARY, NOV. 25. The three-day 23rd Karnataka State Ophthalmological Conference will be held at Basava Bhavan here from Friday. The theme of the conference is "Technology for the masses."
Lectures
Apart from discussions, interactions, and video presentations, experts will deliver lectures on several issues such as advances in surgery and treatment. According to the chairman of the conference committee, V.N. Kulkarni, the conference will help ophthalmologists serve society better by organising free eye camps, rural eye check-up camps and by bringing down the prevalence of blindness. The delegates participating in the conference would have the benefit of the phacoemulsification wet lab that would be set up. Postgraduate students would also get an opportunity to operate the latest equipment, he added.
500 delegates
Around 500 delegates from across the State were expected to attend the conference organised in association with the Bellary District Ophthalmic Association and the Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS), he said. Manjula Chellur, High Court judge, would inaugurate the conference. S.N. Jayaram, Deputy Commissioner; Pankaj Kumar Thakur, Superintendent of Police; and R.D. Desai, Director of VIMS, would be the guests of honour, the organising secretary, Nagaraj, said.
