Tirupati
By Our Special Correspondent
TIRUPATI, NOV. 25. The CPI(M) today asked the State Government to waive the electricity arrears to be paid by the weaker sections inhabiting the SC/ST colonies and order the immediate suspension of forcible collection by the electricity authorities in the district. A resolution to this effect was adopted by the party at its district convention here today copies of which were released to the media by the district secretary, K. Murali. The party also sought to remind the Congress of its poll-promise that if it came to power it would write off the entire arrears to a tune of Rs.1,200 crores payable by the farmers besides providing free power to one bulb in each household in the State. It said that for a Government which wrote off the Rs.1,200 crore power arrears, writing-off another Rs.125 crore payable by the poor would not be a big burden.
