TIRUPATI, NOV. 25. Sugarcane growers covered by the State-owned S.V. Co-Operative Sugar Factory here have today held a massive demonstration before the office of the RDO protesting against the restrictions imposed on the movement of their cane stocks. The slogan-shouting demonstrators carrying placards nearly laid siege to the RDO's office demanding that sugar factory authorities keep their hands off cane stocks and the trucks/tractors carrying the cane to private sugar factories. They charged that their lorries were being forcibly detained and their labourers threatened against carrying the stocks to the private factory ignoring the Government-controlled SV Co-Op sugars. The farmers in a memorandum said that when the State-owned unit was closed for three years, it was the private sugar mill, which supplied them seed, fertilizer, pesticides, crop loans and bought their stocks under an agreement. They questioned as to how they could suddenly stop supply to the private unit and divert it the State unit.
