Tirupati
By Our Special Correspondent
TIRUPATI, NOV. 25. In an apparent indication of the CPI(M)'s hardening attitude towards the Congress, the party's State secretariat member, V. Krishnaiah today demanded the immediate cancellation of all the nine controversial irrigation tenders. He also made no secret of the party's displeasure over the "disappointing performance" of the Congress both at the Centre and in the State.
`Come clean'
Addressing the district party convention, Krishnaiah sought to draw the attention of the State Government in this context to the remarks of the court and the directions it had issued to the former. He also cited the manner in which the High Court faulted the post-notification modifications made to the tender conditions by the State Government. The Congress must come clean by calling for fresh tenders for all the works, he demanded.
`Reckless attitude'
The CPM leader also accused the Congress of being "reckless" towards its poll-promises and warned that if the party did not mend its ways and fulfil them, the same people who voted it to power would teach it a fitting lesson. He regretted that Congress' six months rule at the Centre and the State was causing serious concern to the CPI(M) and pointed out that `serious defects' were evident all its programmes aimed at addressing the problems of the common man.
`National meet'
He said the national convention of the party would be held at New Delhi in April next while the State meet would be held at Warangal in the end of January.
