Anantapur
By Our Staff Reporter
ANANTAPUR, NOV. 25. The District Congress Committee has decided to organise a rally here on December 3 for mobilising public opinion in support of irrigation projects taken up by the State Government. The programme has been conceived in reply to the TDP's "misinformation campaign" against the irrigation projects, particularly the process of tenders. Talking to newspersons here today the Minister for Agriculture, N. Raghuveera Reddy, and the Anantapur MP and DCC president, A. Venkatarami Reddy, said the neglect of irrigation sector by the TDP had an adverse impact on the farmers. The State would have to struggle both for irrigation and drinking water in future too, if the projects were not taken up now, they said.
Neighbours' way
They accused the TDP of failing to prevent Karnataka from completing several contentious projects like Almatti. The DCC would expose the designs of the TDP, which was bent upon "thrusting injustice" on the farmers of the State, they said. Karnataka and Maharashtra had taken up several projects without any clearances. They got them only after the projects' completion, the minister and the DCC president pointed out. As a result, AP had suffered due to the insufficient water in the Krishna basin.
`Double speak'
They also charged the TDP with fanning regional differences with its double speak on the projects. The Opposition party instigating people in both the regions on Pulichintala project, they noted. By taking up the issue of tenders and clearances the TDP was only creating confusion among the people, the leaders alleged. The Congress leaders sought to know how the TDP Government had taken up Telugu Ganga project without any clearances. The pre-qualification norm in tenders was also started by the TDP in the case of Devadula project and the national highways project. They claimed that even TDP leaders were criticising the party's stand privately. The party legislator, S. Sailajanath, former DCC president, P. Venugopal Reddy, and others were present.
