KHAMMAM, NOV. 25. The CPI (ML-New Democracy) took out a rally in the town protesting against the increasing attacks on party leaders and sympathisers by the CPI (Maoist) dalams in Yellandu agency area. The rally, which passed through main thoroughfares, culminated in a public meeting near the party office. They rallyists decried the attitude of Maoists towards other revolutionary parties. The New Democracy state Secretariat member, Vemulapalli Venkataramaiah, said that ideological differences, if any, should be settled politically. Physical attacks on cadres of other revolutionary parties were not justified in any way. He said that Maoists had launched a campaign targeting the ordinary people. It would be counter productive. The party's state committee leader, S. Venkateswar Rao, said that the New Democracy could consolidate its base in Yellandu area by waging relentless struggles against landlords. The party was instrumental for the distribution of land in a big way in the district. The Maoists' attempts to undermine the sacrifices made by the party supporters would not be fruitful. The Yellandu MLA, Gummadi Narsaiah, said that the New Democracy had been with the people in the area for decades.
Hard-earned support
The public support enjoyed by the party owed to the commitment of the cadres. He said the party cadres had, for decades, worked in remote areas with an intention to safeguarding the interests of people subjected to exploitation. He called for an end to the confrontation between the two revolutionary parties. The party leaders -- K. Rangaiah and P. Ranga Rao -- spoke.
