SHIMOGA, NOV. 25. A person was reportedly attacked and robbed of Rs. 3 lakhs here on Wednesday night. According to police, Totaiah (45), working as a clerk with Shiva Steel Dealers in Hubli, was waiting at the KSRTC bus stand here at 11.30 p.m. on Wednesday to catch a bus to Hubli after collecting Rs. 3 lakhs from Koppa and Sringeri in Chikmagalur district. He was asked by a gang to board a van waiting outside the bus stand on the pretext that he would be given Rs. 2.5 lakhs that was due to his dealer from a sub-dealer in Chikmagalur. Even as the van was moving on the bypass, its occupants reportedly stabbed Totaiah and fled with the money. A grievously injured Totaiah, who managed to reach a nearby garage, contacted the police with the help of its staff to complain about the incident. The police, led by the Additional Superintendent of Police, D.C. Rajappa, who arrived at the spot swung into action to track down the culprits. No arrest has been made so far. A special squad has been formed to nab the culprits. Totaiah, who was admitted to the McGann Hospital here, is said to be recovering. The police are on the look out for the Chikmagalur-based steel sub-dealer who is said to have masterminded the attack on Totaiah to settle scores with the dealer in Hubli.
