CISF launches air passenger feedback scheme

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, NOV. 25. The Central Industrial Security Force on Wednesday launched a 15-day passenger feedback scheme. V. Kamaraja, CISF South Zone Deputy Inspector-General of Police, who launched the scheme at the Kamaraj domestic terminal here, said that the all-India survey, marked the completion of five years of the induction of the presence in 47 airports, 12 of them in the south.

All passengers would be provided with questionnaires on frisking, behaviour of the security personnel, their attitude and communication skills, satisfaction with security and suggestions for improving security. Drop boxes had been kept near boarding gates to collect the response sheets.

Mr. Kamaraja and A.N. Mahapatra, senior commandant, CISF Airport Security Unit, said a similar exercise was carried out by the CISF in 2001 at 19 airports. Feedback was received from 8,348 passengers. Over 70 per cent of the travellers found that the security arrangements were better after the CISF took over, 84 per cent felt that the security level was just right, 83 per cent said the staff were courteous and 89 per cent noted that frisking was appropriate.

The CISF was inducted in the Chennai airport in November 2001 with 469 personnel. Now, with 591 staff members, it provided security to over 15,000 passengers daily at the international and domestic termini.

Lucky draw

B. Ramdas, Deputy General Manager, Indian Airlines, said the national carrier associated itself with the CISF in the scheme by sponsoring free return tickets. The first prize would be given to two persons for travel to any international destination and the second prize for two persons in the domestic sector. The lucky draw would be held on February 3, 2005 in New Delhi.

S. Subramaniam, General Manager (Operations/Airport) and acting Chennai Airport Director, said the scheme would go a long way in understanding security needs and passenger satisfaction.
