NEW DELHI, NOV. 25. The Delhi police today refused permission to the Communist Party of India (Maoist), formed after the merger of the People's War and the Maoist Communist Centre of India, to hold a public meeting at the Ferozeshah Kotla Ground here to mark its creation. More than 800 activists were taken into preventive custody outside the Red Fort. They raised slogans in support of their movement and distributed leaflets eulogising the armed struggle . They were later released. Earlier, 70 activists were detained by the Central Delhi police when they were on their way to attend the meeting. Some who were staying at Ambedkar Bhavan were also denied permission to leave. Those held include the revolutionary poet, Varavara Rao, and leaders of the Solidarity Committee in Support of Revolutionary Struggles such as Raj Kishore and Hari Singh Tarq. Revolutionary singer Gadar, who was expected to attend, could not come. According to a statement by the Solidarity Committee, dozens of activists were camping at various places here and celebrating the coming together of the two groups. "These armed men are fighting against injustice, exploitation, and repression of Dalits and women."
