HYDERABAD, NOV. 25. The Telugu Desam and the BJP have criticised the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, for his denial to convene an all-party meeting on irrigation tenders. Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, the TDP leader, S. Chandramohan Reddy, dared the Government to convene such a meeting and set the record sought. Recalling that the Left parties had also made a similar demand, he said the Government should prove its sincerity by speaking to all political parties. He said the Chief Minister was trying to divert the public attention from the tender controversy and accusing the Telugu Desam of stalling projects to cover up the internal bickering in party. He took objection to certain remarks made against TDP leaders during Dr. Reddy's visit to Kurnool on Wednesday with regard to the `Food-for-work' programme.
`Clear the air'
At another press conference, the BJP general secretary, K. Laxman, said the Chief Minister should hold an all-party meeting to clear the misgivings in the minds of people. He said if the Government was really transparent it should invite all parties. The way some Congress leaders were dashing off letters on irrigation projects shows that things were not going in the right direction, he added. He said the TRS and other parties were issuing statements, which were critical of the Government performance. "Where is the coordination between these parties," he asked. He derided the advertisement campaign launched by the Government to defend its action on irrigation tenders.
