ANANTAPUR, NOV. 25. The AICC general secretary, Digvijay Singh, has sought a report from the DCC on the police cases foisted against Congress activists during the last 10 years of the TDP regime. He assured party workers of taking up the matter with the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, and seeing to it that the cases were lifted. Speaking at party workers' meeting here last night, Mr. Digvijay Singh acknowledged the brave front put up by partymen during the last 10 years by withstanding the excesses of the TDP, even by suffering losses including scores of lives. Alleging that the TDP leader, Paritala Ravindra, had victimised Congress workers all over the district, the AICC leader said he would take up the matter with the Government so that action was taken against him as per law. Mr. Singh, however, discouraged the partymen from treading the path of violence, as the party was a strong believer in non-violence. The party would fight the TDP's violence with peaceful agitation and would not resort to violence for settling scores with the Opposition.
Call for unity
Meanwhile, addressing the district Congress extended meeting in Cuddapah on Thursday, Mr. Digvijay Singh alleged that scores of Congressmen and farmers were implicated in false cases and harassed during the TDP rule. Calling upon party workers to be united, he opined that the TDP could rule the State for about a decade due to disunity among Congressmen.
