Guntur
By Our Staff Reporter
GUNTUR, NOV. 25. In the absence of any invitation for talks on resolution of the crisis arising out of `Lockout' declared by the management of the Bajarang Jute Mills in Guntur, four workers' trade unions resolved to picket the district Collector's Office on Saturday. Leaders of the CITU, BMS, Jai Bheem and a group of the TNTUC met here on Thursday evening to chalk out the future plan to get the jute mills reopened, following no talks taking place on November 24 and 25 in Hyderabad as assured by the Minister for Cooperation, Kanna Lakshmi Narayana. The CITU district secretary, Eda Madhava Rao, alleged that the management lacked interest in lifting the lockout and the Government was also appears to be not very serious about resolving the issue.
Unions hold talks
Following this development the leaders of the four trade unions decided to picket the Collectorate on November 27 and organise `Chalo Hyderabad' programme to highlight their demands, he added. The BMS leader, Mohapatro, the Jai Bheem leader, T. Babu Rao and the splinter group leader of the TNTUC, Yedukondalu, participated in the talks this evening here along with Mr. Madhava Rao. None of the representatives of the 11 trade unions, which had signed an agreement with the management in August, participated in the discussions. About 3,000 employees were without work since the management declared a `lockout' on November 19. The matter was brought to the notice of the Minister for Cooperation, Kanna Lakshmi Narayana, the Revenue Minister, Dharmana Prasada Rao, who was in the city on that day and the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, at Vinukonda, where he had launched the Indira Prabha Comprehensive Land Development project.
