KOCHI, NOV. 25. Holders Kollam men and Kannur women started off on a winning note in the 34th State senior handball championship that got underway at the Government HSS ground, Panampally Nagar, here on Thursday. Drawn in Pool A, Kollam had it easy against Idukki 22-4, while Kannur women too were impressive as they overwhelmed Kasaragod (23-0) in their Pool A league match. Earlier, the Kerala Sports Council president, C. Mohanachandran, inaugurated the tournament.
Men:
Pool A: Kollam bt Idukki 22-4. Pool B: Thiruvananthapuram bt Alappuzha 21-7. Pool C: Malappuram bt Pathanamthitta 18-2. Pool D: Palakkad bt Kozhikode 23-11.
Women:
Pool A: Kannur bt Kasaragod 23-0; Kollam bt Kottayam 12-6; Kollam bt Pathanamthitta 15-1; Kasaragod bt Pathanamthitta 3-0. Pool B: Kozhikode bt Ernakulam 14-3; Thrissur bt Thiruvananthapuram 23-6; Thrissur bt Kozhikode 24-15.
