NAGAPATTINAM, NOV. 25 . Several parts of Nagapattinam district experienced moderate rain last night. Nagapattinam, Thiruppoondi, Thalainayar and Sirkazhi recorded 20 mm each. The Collector, M. Veera Shanmugha Moni, told The Hindu that it would take a few days for water to recede from paddy fields in Nagapattinam, Thalainayar and Vedaranyam taluks. The administration was making an assessment of the damage caused to the samba crop. Water supply from the Grand Anaicut to the Cauvery and Vennar river systems remained suspended, as there was no demand of water for irrigation in Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts. However, 501 cusecs was let into the Grand Anaicut canal this evening. Officials said 5,196 cusecs was discharged from the Mettur dam for delta irrigation this evening. The level in the dam stood at 102.92 feet (full level 120 feet), with an inflow of 4,811 cusecs. The storage was 68.67 tmcft (full capacity 93.4 tmcft).
