SIRSI, NOV. 25. The Sirsi Totgars Sales Society (TSS) will buy vanilla beans every Thursday from December 2 onwards. The TSS president, Shantaram Hegde, said in a press release on Thursday that the society had obtained an export licence and urged vanilla growers to maintain high quality of produce. He said that the export license would be utilised not only for vanilla beans but also for "chali" (white arecanut). There was a plan to export arecanut to Pakistan. The TSS would buy first-grade vanilla beans at Rs. 260 a kg, second grade at Rs. 170 and third grade at Rs. 30, he said.
