CHENNAI, NOV. 25. Justice K.S. Bakthavatsalam, chairman, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's Chennai Kendra, today made an appeal to music lovers and the Music Academy vice-president, P. Obul Reddy, to ensure that the academy conduct its music festival this year. "I do not want to go into the legal issues of Music Academy. But as a staunch Carnatic music rasika of Chennai, I want the festival of music and dance to take place in the internationally-known Music Academy," said Mr. Bhakthavatsalam, presiding over the third year music and dance festival of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Kala Kendra and Kala Pradarshini. Inaugurating the festival, which runs till December 15, the Chief General Manager, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), Chennai Telephones, K.B. Brahmadathan, said the BSNL sponsored cultural activities of the Bhavan. "Chennai stands out in the cultural confluence. And the metro showcases to the whole world the importance of the cultural festival." Mr. Reddy commended the efforts by the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan to preserve and promote India's rich and varied cultural heritage. T.K. Parameswaran, director, giving an account of the activities of the Bhavan, said there were 120 Kendras nationwide and seven in other countries.
