CHENNAI, NOV. 25. City police arrested three men on charges of attempting to smuggle cash from a hawala transaction and seized Rs. 6 lakhs from them at the Egmore railway station last night. Police said that a head constable in mufti intercepted Shamsuddin, 31, on a tip-off minutes before he boarded the Rockfort Express. Alerted by the policeman, Railway police frisked Shamsuddin and recovered cash concealed in several pockets of a specially designed dress. The railway police deputy superintendent, Egmore, V.G. Pannir Selvam, said that Ashokan, 45 and Ismail, 61, Shamsuddin's escorts, were also arrested. Interrogation revealed that they were agents for Kamruddin of Triplicane and were on their way to deliver the cash to Raju in Tiruchi.
