MANGALORE, NOV. 25. St. Aloysius College here will organise a three-day cultural festival from Friday with drama as the main theme followed by a Dakshina Kannada heritage exhibition on its campus. The festival is being organised as part of the celebrations of the 125th year (post-centenary silver jubilee) of the college. The rector of the college, Francis Serrao, told presspersons here today that three special dramas that would be staged: "Court Marshal," "Mukhyamantri" and "Namma Nimmolagobba." An exhibition on science, humanities and culture would feature collections of coins, antiques, flowers, medicinal plants, books and curios. Fr. Serrao said that this was the first time that humanities, science and culture were being combined. Another attraction of the event would be the display of articles from Dharmasthala, Alva's Institute at Moodbidri and other organisations. The exhibition would be inaugurated by the Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala, D. Veerendra Heggade, he said. On this occasion, the college chapel, which is famous for its frescos painted by Brother Moschini, and the college museum, Aloysium, would be open to the public. The festival would end with a special convention of differently-abled persons on November 28. As part of the celebrations, the 125th year "Run" had been organised in Mangalore city, he said. A seminar on "Emerging Trends in Literary Theory and Research" would be organised on Friday and Saturday.
`Pre-Unique 2004'
Pre-Unique 2004, a State level inter-collegiate cultural festival organised by St. Aloysius Pre-University College got under way here on Thursday. M. Shantaram Shetty, Dean of Justice K.S. Hegde Medical Academy, Deralakatte, and Managing Director, Tejaswini Hospital, inaugurated the two-day event. Vijitha V. Shenoy, convener of the event, said nearly 1,100 students from 39 colleges from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts including two colleges from Bangalore were participating in the event. In all, 38 competitions covering literary, cultural, commerce and science fields had been organised.
