KOCHI, NOV. 25. A workshop on fish quality was organised by the Marine Products Export Development Agency (MPEDA) today. It was organised for officials of the State Fisheries Department, Harbour Engineering and technologists in the seafood industry. The Director of MPEDA, J. Bhojan, spoke on the quality parameters prescribed for fishing harbours and fish-handlers. He highlighted the need to educate the fishermen on board fishing vessels, workers in pre-processing and processing centres. He stressed the role of seafood export, which sustains fisheries in India. K. Raveendran, former director of the Central Institute for Fisheries Technology, spoke on the need to ensure food safety and Aliamma Kuriachan, deputy director, MPEDA, on personal hygiene and sanitation at fishing harbours and fish handling centres. K. K. Chandran, deputy director, MPEDA, spoke on fish quality in export marketing.
