Tihar inmate dies

NEW DELHI, NOV. 25. An undertrial lodged in Tihar Central Jail here died purportedly due to ill health on Wednesday.

According to a Tihar Jail spokesperson, Abhimanyu Pradhan, a resident of Dilshad Garden, was an accused in a murder case reported from Vivek Vihar in East Delhi earlier this year.

He was not keeping good health. Yesterday, his condition worsened. He was taken to G.B. Pant Hospital. Despite their best efforts, the doctors could not save him.

Abhimanyu's family members have been informed of his death. The Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Rajouri Garden) has also been informed and inquest proceedings have been initiated.

Scientist ends life

A 34-year-old scientist said to have been suffering from mental depression for the past eight years committed suicide by jumping from the roof of his neighbour's house at Preet Vihar in East Delhi today.

The deceased, Ashwini Gupta -- who was employed as a scientist at the Defence Research and Development Organisation -- went to the terrace of his house, then crossed over to his neighbour's roof, and jumped down around 12-20 p.m.

He was rushed to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
