NEW DELHI, NOV. 26. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), a partner of the ruling United Progressive Alliance, today demanded a review of the increase in the prices of petroleum products. The party said the coalition should be committed to the welfare of the poor, downtrodden, common people and farmers. The UPA should implement the promises it had made to the people and especially to those in Jharkhand, a State where people were suffering from drought, malnutrition, and lack of development. Accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Jharkhand Government of offering nothing but "empty promises'' to the people, the JMM said 50 years after Independence, deaths due to hunger were a matter of shame. The party asked the Centre to provide immediate relief in the form of food grains and to monitor relief work. Expressing concern at rising unemployment and closure of industries, the JMM said the Centre should conduct a survey and implement its promise to revive public sector units such as the fertilizer plant at Sindri and the Heavy Engineering Corporation in Ranchi.
