Muayad S. Hussain, Charge d' Affaires, Embassy of the Republic of Iraq, New Delhi, writes in response to the Editorial "Resilient resistance" published in The Hindu (November 25, 2004): The interim Iraqi Government is working for security, democracy and economy while the terrorists and insurgents are working against all of these. Hence, the majority of the Iraqi people demand that the Iraqi Government work to save them from foreign terrorists who practise violent acts and, at the same time, they condemn such acts. However, military operations remain the last resort for the Government, but it will not hesitate in using force, if necessary. The continuation of terrorist acts will actually lead to the stationing of the multi-national forces for a longer time than expected. This will delay the taking over the responsibility of the country's security by the Iraqis. Terrorism targets not only Iraq, but the whole international community. Therefore, efforts are on to clean up Iraqi cities and areas of terrorists, and efforts are going on to settle security and order all over Iraq and face those who arouse violent acts. Twenty vaults for torture have been found in Fallujah in addition to weapons hideouts. Huge weapons and explosives hideouts were discovered in Fallujah. However, 550 detainees have been set free there after it was proved that there was no connection between them and terrorists or with fighting. The Iraqi Government is a coalition government that represents all segments of people and it works hard for creating a national consensus and unity. Furthermore, it is bound to exert efforts to ensure the participation of all Iraqis in the political process.
