KOLLAM, NOV. 26. Four schoolchildren were hospitalised after drinking water mixed with hooch from the taps installed at the Ambalapuram Government UP School at Kottarakara, near here, this morning. The students who drank water from the taps soon experienced dizziness. Four among them were rushed to the Kottarakara Taluk Hospital. Teachers with the help of local residents soon investigated the cause. They discovered an uncapped hooch can inside the water tank of the school. The contents of the can, with a capacity of 10 litres, got mixed with the water being pumped into the tank. Among those hospitalised, Sumith (7) and Allen Joy (10) are studying in the third standard and Shamnad (11) and Joemon (10) are studying in the fourth standard. Doctors said the four were out of danger. There had been complaints that bootleggers were using the school premises as a hooch den after sunset.
