Erode
By Our Staff Reporter
ERODE, NOV.26. A rural area in Dharapuram taluk is facing acute water scarcity for the past 12 days due to the failure of pumping motors. Manakkadavu, 10 km away from Dharapuram on Palani main road, has poor workers. More than 1,000 people are residing in it. The Amaravathy Comprehensive water supply scheme is catering to the needs of Manakkadavu, Kongure and Bhommanallur panchayats. The Tamil Nadu Water and Drainage Board is operating the scheme by pumping water from Amaravathy river, granted to the panchayats. The panchayats are supplying it to their villagers. The villagers told The Hindu that often the village faced water crisis, as the motors had to be repaired frequently or due to heavy pressure the pipelines would burst. Due to repairs there has been no pumping for the past 12 days. Even the noon meal centre had to get water from a distance. The villagers conducted a meeting today and decided to represent their problems with Government officials.
