Orissa off to a sound start

PALAKKAD, NOV. 26. Orissa got off to a sound start, ending day two of the Ranji Trophy Plate Group `A' match against Kerala at 142 without loss at the Fort Maidan here on Friday.

Orissa opener Shiv Sunder Das and his partner Subrat Behera have made Kerala's first innings total of 328 look somewhat inadequate on what is still a good batting wicket. Das looked in no trouble at all during his 3-1/2 hours stay at the wicket. He and Behera, who gave a tough chance in the slips in the first over of the innings bowled by Tinu Yohannan, rotated the strike well.

Earlier, Ajay Kudua and K. Chandrasekhara scored 56 each in contrasting styles to help Kerala — overnight 212 for five — get past 300.
