BRAHAMVAR (UDUPI DT.), NOV. 26. K. Jayaprakash Hegde, MLA, said on Friday that Rs. 1 crore had been released for the repair of the Barkur bridge in the district. In a press release issued here, Mr. Hegde said the Revenue Department had released a grant of Rs. 1 crore for the reconstruction of the damaged slabs of the bridge at Barkur and for the construction of a diversion road. The money had been released from the Rural Road Development Fund. The Barkur bridge collapsed in July mainly on account of lorries overloaded with manganese ore using the road. The collapse of the bridge led to districtwide protests against the movement of overloaded lorries. The closure of the bridge has inconvenienced the people of Barkur and Brahmavar.
