THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, NOV. 26. The Governor, R. L. Bhatia, has urged teachers to instil a spirit of enquiry into the minds of students and channelise their energy in the pursuit of knowledge. Inaugurating the 125th anniversary celebrations of Holy Angels' Convent Higher Secondary School here today, he said children should be trained to face the challenges of the modern world. "When you educate a girl, you are educating an entire community," said Mr. Bhatia. The Education Minister, E. T. Mohammed Basheer, said the Government had begun the task of improving the standard of education in the State. "We are introducing a grading system at the SSLC examination. There are also plans to revise curriculum at the higher education levels," he said. The Archbishop of the Latin Catholic diocese, M. Soosaipakiam, regretted the `growing tendency' to dub the services rendered by Christian institutions as profit-making ventures. "What profit motive is there, when nearly 85 per cent of the Catholic educational institutions are located in rural areas," he asked.
