HYDERABAD, NOV. 26. He has no friends to play with. Shiv Shankar (14) from Goshamahal wished for a parrot to kill boredom and forget the pain of his illness. And his wish was heard by Make-a-Wish Foundation, which promptly provided the thalassaemia patient with two parrots. Taking possession of the birds, Shankar beamed with joy. "I will name them `Mittu' and `Kittu' and take care of them," said the boy. There was no dearth of excitement at Raj Bhavan on Friday as wide-eyed children waited for their turns to receive their `wish' from the Governor, Sushil Kumar Shinde. In all, 28 children suffering from thalassaemia and hemophilia had their wishes granted, courtesy the foundation.
Goodies all the way
Vinayak fought hard to contain his delight at receiving a bicycle and that too of his favourite colour, yellow. Manikanta wished for a Spiderman costume, Supriya wanted a doctor's kit and Asra, a Punjabi dress. And all of them returned home, fondly carrying their wishes in arms. "Our endeavour is to give children what their illness has taken away -- a smile," a volunteer of the foundation said. The Governor assured support to the foundation and called for sustained efforts to spread awareness on thalassaemia and hemophilia.
