HUBLI, NOV. 27. The Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, today defended the special packages announced for Gulbarga and Bidar districts and said similar development packages would be announced for other districts depending on the need. In a brief chat with presspersons at Hubli airport along with the former Minister H.K. Patil, the Chief Minister said the Government was studying the requirements of other districts and would soon come out with special development packages for them. Referring to the delay in the release of crop insurance due to farmers, Mr. Singh said that the Government would ensure that there was no further delay in the release of the amount due. To a question, Mr. Singh said the Government would not tolerate irregularities by officials or delay in the payment of crop insurance. Farmers in Dharwad district had been sanctioned Rs. 104 crores as crop insurance this year. However, banks had sought a few clarifications from the Government and these clarifications were being provided and the Government's share would also be released to ensure early payment of crop insurance to farmers.
