HYDERABAD, NOV. 27. Faced with poor representation of Andhra Pradesh youth in the armed forces, the National Cadet Corps Directorate has urged the State Government to establish a training institute to groom cadets for selection as commissioned officers in Defence Services. The Deputy Director-General of NCC Directorate, James Sebastian, speaking to reporters on Saturday after the 56th NCC day celebrations where the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, reviewed an impressive march past by cadets, said that the Government had responded positively to the idea. Air Commodore Sebastian said a training institute was necessary to encourage more youth to join the armed forces as commissioned officers. The Maharashtra Government had established a similar institute and Uttaranchal would shortly have one. The NCC Directorate urged the State Government to look into the proposal and set up a training institute.
Awards presented
The Chief Minister distributed awards to best cadets and associate NCC officers for their outstanding performance. He also released a brochure brought out by the NCC Directorate.
