KHAMMAM, NOV. 27. The Union Minister of State for Tourism, Renuka Chowdhury, said on Saturday that road connectivity was proposed for 22 world heritage sites in the country. She inaugurated Government schools buildings and drinking water tanks in different villages in Dammapet and Aswaraopet mandals. Talking to mediapersons, she said moves were afoot for linking up 16 Buddhist centres in the country. There had been tremendous growth in tourism and foreign exchange earnings from tourism during the past six months. The new measures initiated by the Government were expected to give a boost to the sector.
Funds for tourism circuit
She explained that the Palair to Parnasala tourism belt would be development making Khammam the favourite destination in the State. A sum of Rs. 6.38 lakhs had been released for developing the tourism belt in the district and Rs. 41 crores was allocated for developing a tourism circuit in the State. The Department of Tourism would help provide a bigger market for crafts and products prepared by self-help groups. Their products would be made available at railway stations, airports and places of tourist importance in a big way. The non-tribal farmers at Manadalapalli village made a representation to the Minister seeking protection from the tribals who were stalking claim for their patta-lands. She inaugurated the Government high school building, gram panchayat complex and water tank at Mandalapalli and Dibbagudem villages.
