PONDICHERRY, NOV. 27 . The Vice-Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), V N Rajasekharan Pillai has exhorted engineering and technical personnel to apply their training, skills and knowledge to improve society. At the concluding day of the seventh convention on "Recent advances, growth and achievements of modern engineering towards 2020", organised by the Indian Society for Technical Education and Sri Manakula Vinayagar Engineering college here today, Mr. Pillai said literacy and education provided greater security to the people of a country more than any other type of security. Technical and technological education had a great role to play in improving skills. Pointing out that developed countries had advanced due to the achievements in higher education, he said India too could scale greater heights and towards this the potential of youth should be harnessed and channelised. The treasurer of ISTE, Sreenivasan said innovative findings by scientists in the country should be patented.
