BANGALORE, NOV. 27. A nine-member expert committee headed by K.C. Reddy, adviser to the Minister for Energy and Public Works, constituted by the State Government, has decided to ask the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) to examine land acquisition for the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) project. Another sub-committee with the BDA Commissioner and secretaries to the Public Works and Urban Development departments is to review the technical aspects of the project. Reacting to this development, executives of Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise Ltd (NICE), executing the BMIC project, said they had "utmost confidence in Mr. K.C. Reddy, who as Chairman of the Technical Advisory Committee in 1995 assessed the land acquirement for the BMIC. The process has come a full circle with Mr. Reddy now reviewing his own recommendations and decisions after almost 10 years."
NICE stand
The managing director of NICE, Ashok Kheny, said the company was taking strong exception to the formation of an expert committee now since it violated the Karnataka High Court Order (of 21-09-1998), which was confirmed by the Supreme Court in March 1999. The State Government's present action also violated the Framework Agreement between NICE and the Government. The agreement was for all reviews to be done. "The project is being delayed deliberately by the Government and we cannot allow BMIC to be politicised and held hostage. We are left with no choice but to remind the State Government to honour the Framework Agreement and the judicial mandate, since we have to protect our corporate image, investors and the lenders' belief, and security in the project," Mr. Kheny said.
