Three gangsters held after shoot-out

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, NOV. 27. A gang allegedly involved in cases of carjacking and robbery has been busted by the South-West Delhi police. Three members of the gang were arrested from Dwarka in South-West Delhi on Friday following a brief exchange of fire.

Following a tip-off, the police had laid a trap outside the Sports Complex of Dwarka yesterday. Around 7 p.m., the suspects appeared on the scene in a Maruti car. When the police team challenged them to stop, one of them opened fire. But, the team managed to nab all the three suspects. They were identified as Ravinder alias Tinu, Satish alias Sanichchar and Satish Jangra. A country-made revolver and cartridges were recovered from the possession of Ravinder, who had opened fire. A knife was also recovered from them. The Maruti car had been stolen from Mandir Marg in New Delhi.

During interrogation, Ravinder told the police that he was initiated into the crime world by Vikram Churi of Mitraon village in Najafgarh in 2000. Vikram, an alleged bad character of Najafgarh police station, was also a member of Anoop gang. The two came in touch with Satish Jatwada of Sonepat and first robbed a Maruti car from Gurgaon.

The robbed car was then used in committing another robbery in Bahadurgarh in which they took away Rs. 3.75 lakhs from the victim. The car was then abandoned in Najafgarh by Vikram. In another incident in 2000, they robbed a car from Gurgaon and were planning to commit robbery again in Bahadurgarh when they were arrested. Two years later, they also attacked a Special Cell team when they had gone to conduct a raid in connection with a case at Mongolpuri in North-West Delhi. In August this year, they had robbed a Santro car and Rs. 1 lakh in cash from a person in Dwarka.

Ravinder and his associates also had links with Arvind Jyonti, a notorious Uttar Pradesh-based criminal, who was killed in an encounter with the U.P. police earlier
