BANGALORE, NOV. 28. There is a need to work towards building a bridge between individuals and organisations representing women's interests and policy makers, keeping in mind the critical role of Parliament and Government in making decisions, said the Director of Centre for Social Research, Ranjana Kumari. Ms. Kumari told presspersons at the WomenPowerConnect's workshop on "Women and legislative coordination" that the national-level issues such as Domestic Violence Prevention Bill, 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and legislatures, social security and economic empowerment would be focussed. The workshop proved to be a platform of discussion for women leaders, groups and non-profit organisations of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Orissa. Indumathi Rao of CBR Network, who highlighted some of the key issues concerning women in the State, said there was a need for society to get rid of "Devadasi System". Philomena Peres, Chairperson of the Karnataka State Women's Commission, said that it was important to focus on budgetary allocation to women and children and sought special reservations for them.
