MANGALORE, NOV. 28. A large number of members of the Dakshina Kannada Physically Handicapped Persons' Association gathered at the St. Aloysius College Auditorium here on Sunday for the annual convention of the association held in collaboration with the Sahodaya Outreach Programme and the management of the college. Addressing the gathering, Yogish Bhat, MLA, said efforts were on to increase the stipend given by the Government to the disabled from Rs. 125 to Rs. 500. The authorities concerned would appeal to the Government to include more disabled persons in the list of beneficiaries who received aid. "I will take up these issues in the Legislative Assembly,'' he added. Talks would be held with bus owners' associations to allow such persons to travel free of cost. Francis Serrao, rector of the St. Aloysius College, and Shantharam Shetty, founder president of the association and orthopaedic surgeon, spoke. Members of the association A.C. Rai of Vijaya Bank; Robert D' Souza of Mobility Centre for Blind; Kasturi, a visually challenged music teacher at Mangalayogi School in Vamanjoor, and Asha Fernandes, who provides free consultation at the Limbs Centre in Wenlock Hospital, were felicitated.
