CUDDAPAH, NOV. 28. A multi-purpose indoor stadium costing Rs. 1.2 crores and a regional sports school would be set up with Rs. 7 crores in Cuddapah, the Collector, Jayesh Ranjan, said on Sunday. Speaking after inaugurating the 50th inter-district table tennis tournament here, he said the foundation for the stadium and sports school would be laid in January next. The Regional Deputy Director, M. Subba Rao, said 280 players from 17 districts were participating in the table tennis championship. The Cuddapah MLA, Md. Ahmedullah, the Deputy DEO, Yella Reddy, and the Zion College correspondent, K. Rajarathnam Isaac, spoke. The Physical Education Inspector of Hyderabad, Divakar, said the tournament would be on till November 30 and 20 table tennis players would be chosen to participate in a tournament to be held in Uttar Pradesh on December 2.
Market to be developed
Earlier, in the day the Collector and the MLA inspected the old market in Cuddapah town and said it would developed at a cost of Rs. 3.5 crores. Although funds were sanctioned in 1997 to construct a two-storeyed modern market complex, its could not fructify as some kirana, vegetable, fruit, flower and meat vendors raised objections to the proposals for their rehabilitation then, Mr. Ranjan recalled. The Market Traders Association president, Nawab Jan, wanted the new market complex to accommodate the 250 shopkeepers and 500 footpath vendors. The Collector assured to issue shop allotment orders before construction of the market complex.
Night patrolling
When the shopkeepers sought patrolling to check thefts in the market, the MLA advised each shopkeeper to contribute Rs. 10 and appoint two night watchmen.
