Pondicherry
By Our Staff Reporter
PONDICHERRY, NOV. 28. The Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) parliamentary party leader, M. Ramadass, has urged the Union Transport and Highways Minister, T. R. Baalu, to do more to improve roads in Pondicherry. In his letter, copies of which were released to the press here on Saturday, Mr. Ramadass thanked Mr. Baalu for having sanctioned Rs. 5 crores for developing roads, in response to a representation made at a meeting of the coordination committee of the United Progressive Alliance, held in October. Mr. Ramadass also urged that the port here be developed to boost the industrial progress of the Union Territory. He said Karaikal was an important region of Pondicherry, and those going to Karaikal from Pondicherry had to pass through Sirkali and Mayiladuthurai in Tamil Nadu. Hence, a two-lane traffic should be introduced on this route. The roads in Karaikal should also be developed.
