BJP to broaden party base in Hassan

HASSAN, NOV. 28. The executive committee of the district unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party, which met at Channarayapatna on Saturday, decided to broaden the party base in the district.

The meeting was chaired by the president of the district unit, D. Dayanand.

Inaugurating the meeting, the senior party leader, B. Nanjappa, said that it was the responsibility of every party worker to strengthen the party, and gaining the confidence of various sections of society was the need of the hour.

The former MLC, G. Madhusoodhan, said that the ideology-based party was to be strengthened without compromising on the party's philosophy.

The party base in the district was to be consolidated on ideology to take on the other parties in the district, he said.

Mr. Madhusoodhan said that the major strength of the party was discipline.

He also said that any differences among the party workers should be brought to the notice of the party leaders and not raised in public.

Convention

The meeting decided to hold a party convention in the district to strengthen the party base and also resolved to invite the party's General Secretary, Ananth Kumar, the President of the State unit, Jagadish Shettar, the Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, B.S. Yediyurappa, and the State unit general secretary, Aravind Limbavali.

Problems

The meeting discussed the problems being faced by the district including unscheduled power cuts, failure of law and order, especially after the torching incident of Dyapalapura, lapses in distributing green cards, and failure in taking up development works.

The meeting also decided to urge the Government to hand over the investigation of Dyapalapura incident to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
