HYDERABAD, NOV. 28. The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, made a fervent plea to save Hyderabad from the onslaught of increasing pollution levels.

"It is not enough if you alone are healthy, the City should also be healthy.

The onus is on everyone to make conscious efforts towards checking vehicular and all other forms of pollution. It is everyone's job," he maintained after flagging off the second edition of the 10K Run here on Sunday.

Hundreds of people from varied backgrounds, including a sizeable number of elders and army personnel, turned up for the run at the picturesque Necklace Road on the misty morning, all geared up for the 10 km run.

Praises enthusiasm

Seeing the huge turnout for the race, the Chief Minister said this was a true representation of the spirit of the City. Praising the unbridled enthusiasm of a physically challenged person, winner of the prestigious Arjuna award, and a 90-year year old man, both in the vanguard of the race, the Chief Minister said there could not be better role models for the youngsters of the City. The run began at 7 a.m. on the Necklace Road and passed through the Buddha Purnima Road, Tank Bund, and Sanjeevaiah Park and back to the Necklace Road.

Prominent among those who took part in the run included the Speaker of the Assembly, K.R. Suresh Reddy, former All England badminton champion P. Gopichand, Olympian Mukesh Kumar and other athletes.
