JD(U) wants President's rule in State

By Our Staff Correspondent

GULBARGA, NOV. 28. The Janata Dal (United) has demanded the President's rule in the State on the grounds that the coalition Government was pre-occupied with its own problems. The party also alleged that there was "absolutely no governance" in the State.

The president of the district unit of the party, Raju Kulgeri, told presspersons on Sunday that members across the State would stage a symbolic dharna on December 1 demanding the imposition of the President's rule.

Dr. Kulgeri said that a delegation would impress upon the President about the need to dismiss the State Government. Former Union Minster, George Fernandes, would also raise the issue in Parliament.

He alleged there was no coordination between the coalition partners in the State. "The Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, and the Deputy Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, have opposing views on every issue and development has come to a stand still.

While Mr. Dharam Singh has been announcing special packages for backward districts such as Gulbarga and Bidar, Mr. Siddaramiah has been speaking lightly of them," he said.

Mr. Siddaramaiah, who is also the Finance Minister, reportedly said that he new nothing about the special packages. Mr. Dharam Singh in turn said that there was no need to question Mr. Siddaramaiah about the packages as the Finance Secretary had already cleared them.

"Can two senior members of the Cabinet run the Government without keeping each other informed about important issues," Dr. Kulgeri asked.

He also termed the Gulbarga development package as a "bag of false promises" and said that it contained nothing concrete.

Dr. Kulgeri said the Janata Dal (United) was not happy with the grant of a Circuit Bench to the region and would continue its agitation till a permanent High Court Bench was established.
