KHAMMAM, NOV. 28. In all, 111 persons were arrested and 16 jeeps seized by the police today in connection with the clash between two left wing extremist groups -- CPI(ML Janashakti) and CPI(ML New Democracy) - at Ramanaraiahnagar village yesterday. A majority of those rounded up were activists of the Janashakti who came from far off places such as Alair and Jangaon. The village continued to be tense as some families deserted their houses after the incident. A delegation of the New Democracy visited the village to take stock of the situation. It took exception to what it called the raid by Janashakti activists. The party MLA, Gummadi Narsaiah, was part of the delegation. The leaders made it clear that those who had defected from the New Democracy were very few in number and it would not have any impact on life in the village guided by principles and ideology of the party. The CPI (ML New Democracy) had built the village for rehabilitating exclusively party loyalists. Demonstrating a rare show of unity, village people could develop roads and drainage on their own while the administration provided other amenities. But some 10 families came out of the party and supported the Telugu Desam initially. Later they shifted their loyalties to the Janashakti. New Democracy supporters acted tough after some members of these families attended the Janashakti rally at Manuguru last month. It was alleged that these families were being harassed.
