VISAKHAPATNAM, NOV. 28. The Department of Meteorology and Oceanography of Andhra University will conduct an advanced training school on tropical cyclones here from Monday to December 24. The programme, sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, is meant for scientific personnel from research and academic institutions and operational weathermen involved in numerical weather prediction. The Department of Science and Technology, in recognition of the high academic standards and successful research programmes in atmospheric sciences at AU, chose Visakhapatnam as the venue for the first advanced training school on tropical cyclones.
Reputed faculty
The faculty includes scientists and professors from India Meteorological Department, National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting, India Institute of Tropical Meteorology and Indian Institute of Science. According to the course coordinator, D.V. Bhaskar Rao, and the co-coordinator, O.S.R.U. Bhanukumar, tropical cyclones rank as the most devastating of all the natural disasters.
