ANAKAPALLE (VISAKHAPATNAM DT.), NOV. 28. The Minister for Commercial Taxes, Konathala Ramakrishna, on Sunday said youth should play a vital role in shaping the destiny of the country. Inaugurating the three-day "Saradotsavam" Andhra University Inter-Collegiate Youth Festival here at AMAL College, he said that with proper motivation and encouragement, the power of youth could be harnessed for transforming India into a super power. The winners of the fest will take part in the Inter-University Youth Festival to be hosted by AU at Visakhapatnam on December 17. Those selected at Visakhapatnam will be deputed to the national-level festival at Benaras Hindu University in January. Stating that youth could do anything, the Minister said they should be trained to become responsible citizens capable of discharging their duties and responsibilities. Mr. Ramakrishna said students would get a chance to exhibit their latent talent if they participate in youth festivals in large numbers.
Prospective varsity
The Minister also said that the AMAL College, which had a campus sprawling over 42 acres, should become a deemed university in future with acquisition of adjoining land. Addressing the students, the AU Vice-Chancellor, Y.C. Simhadri, said AU had opened its PG centres at TP Gudem and Vizianagaram after getting `A' ranking by the National Assessment Accreditation Council (NAAC) for having good infrastructure coupled with high quality of education.
For scribes
The Minister later announced a contribution of Rs.25,000 in his personal capacity to the corpus fund of Vizag Journalists' Forum (VJF) which is being set up for the welfare of city scribes. He gave away the Masuna memorial award to the Editor of Leader, V.V. Ramana Murthy, the Kapila Gopala Rao `best journalist in print media' award to B. Madhugopal ( The Hindu ), NSN Reddy memorial award to Meenakshi Deepak of Excel Media, best photographer award to K.R. Deepak ( The Hindu ), and best videographer/cameraman to K.B. Das. (Excel Media).
